Working at Fast Food Restaurant, Anytime at All (1987)

The voices come over, loud and rude.
“Ten thousand people here want their food!”
From us stiffs behind comes not a peep.
‘Cause if someone did, we might be sued.

Broom in hand, trying not to weep.
Garbage piles at least ten feet deep.
People smile and watch my face.
As they drop some more for me to sweep.

Making burgers at a hectic pace.
Soulless eyes stare into space.
Our self-esteem they do bereave.
Cursed forever stuck inside this place.

My working schedule causes me to grieve.
From New Year’s Day to Christmas eve.
Only hours to go before I leave.
Only hours to go before I leave.
